Left Handed Celebrities | Laurence Fishburne & Gentrification Defined

Another great lefty find.  Laurence Fishburne is left handed! He had me all the back in Boyz In the Hood.  Wasn't he fine in that movie y'all.  "Furious Styles" was the perfect name for his character. That walk he had though. I could watch him on mute. That was back in 1991 and he's still as handsome as ever. Check out this clip:

Even though this is a movie, this message still applies today and if you didn't know folks gentrification is a real thing.

Okay, let's digress for a minute...

What is gentrification you ask?  It's the process of renovating and improving a house or district so that it conforms to middle-class taste. This process is slick though.  People are not going to tell you that's what's happening, you have to pay attention.  If you begin seeing property renovations close to your home.  Those renovations and reconstructions start getting closer and closer and then you begin to see more and more properties in your neighborhood being bought from people who you know are not residing in the home.  Then the homes or land are being purchased by the same individuals or companies.  These are hard core signs.

Let's get even more real. This is something I personally see. If you start seeing people walking their dogs or jogging early in the morning closer and closer to your home.  A sudden upgrade of "nicer" vehicles randomly driving around and occasionally through your neighborhood is occurring.  They start building and opening restaurants and shops near your neighborhood that most people you know can't afford.  There is a sudden increase in police patrol.  You my dear are being gentrified!

Giving an example closer to home, look at Birmingham, Alabama. The cities of Avondale, Lakeview, Central Cities and Ensley.  They're easing there way to the Northside.  It's very clear in the areas of Druid Hills and Fountain Heights.  I hope this is not new news. They are not spending tons of money for nothing. They are not revamping the highways just for your safety. If your community has been asking for additional lighting and street repair for years and ALL of a sudden, they start putting a massive amount of lighting up and redoing the roads??  Come on now.  They call it revitalization.  I beg to differ.  If you're making my area safe for me and my family, why are you revitalizing and then building new shops and restaurants that you know my community can't afford.   All this is being done to "upgrade" the area to attract the middle class and the ultimate goal is to move you out.  Stay woke!  Remember, you have a voice and it's powerful.  Use it.

The best way to tackle this problem is to begin challenging it from the beginning.  Don't wait until you begin seeing tons of reconstruction going on.  Maintain your community, have community meetings, get involved and engaged with your local politicians and voice your concerns.  You can't be forced to sell your home.

Let's look at a softer example of gentrification.  Remember the movie "Up"?  Ed Asner played Carl Fredricksen.  Fredricksen's neighborhood was undergoing gentrification.  Look how he responds:

Even though, Fredricksen eventually moved his house with a whole bunch of balloons, he stood his ground and moved how he wanted to move.

But, I did digress...let's take it back to Laurence Fishburne.

Boyz in the Hood is not the only movie or project on Laurence Fishburne's resume.  He played Ike Turner in What's Love Got to Do With It.  Morpheus in The Matrix, Professor Maurice in Higher Learning and tons more.

We are pleased to add this great actor to our left handed celebrities list.
